Today we played through most of page 18. Every instrument learned one new note.

Assignment for 6th Grade

Please be ready to play number 66 next week.We will play through the end of page 19.

Last night, the sixth grade band gave it’s first ever performance. I’m very pleased to say that it went exceptionally well! All students played their best and demonstrated the kind of behavior that makes me proud of my Southwood students.

I want to offer my special congratulations to the soloists for last night. Those who played solos and duets did a wonderful job and should be especially proud.

Great job!

SouthwoodBand.com Changing Hosts

I’m making some changes to where I’m hosting SouthwoodBand.com. Over the next few days you may see some weird issues and one part of the site or another may not work properly. Just be patient and I’ll get the issues worked out.

All eighth grade students will have a quiz over the first 20 region band terms that is due on Friday. These are all review, so this should be an easy quiz.

You can practice the quiz here: http://quizlet.com/set/451885/

Enrichment Week Class

Your project for Mr. McDaniel’s enrichment week class is a guided tutorial of HTML web design. You will watch a video and practice HTML skills at the same time. Put on your headphones and then click the links below (in order, please).

New Practice Procedures

For the time being, we’re going to keep going with the current system for practicing with a twist.

Four days of practice a week are due each Monday. Parents should sign a form that verifies that the practicing has actually been done. You can use a piece of notebook paper, your student planner, or you can click here to download and print out a pre-made form (the form is in pdf format).

Here’s the new part – instead of turning in your practice time, it will be your responsibility to scan it in using the scannner in the band room. Instructions are on the scanner itself, but basically, you just put your practice sheet on the scanner and hit the big button in the middle. That’s it. This will guarantee that your practice time is turned in as well as when (the scanner records the time and date that you turned it in).

Keep practicing!

As you probably know, I’m always looking for a way to make the band better. Head over to the SouthwoodBand.com forums to read my question and post your answer for me. If you haven’t already done so, you will need to register for an account before you can post your answer. You can get directly to my question by clicking here.

Register at SouthwoodBand.com

Soon, we will begin using an online forum for class discussions. The forum is located at http://forums.southwoodband.com. Reading and posting in this forum will be required. The first step is to register for an account. Note - registering for an account is different than leaving a comment. In order to register for an account - click here. Students should register for an account no later than Friday, September 26.
